Dr. Beth Oates

Dr. Beth Oates received her PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine, where her research focused on bacterial competition and antimicrobial mechanisms. She previously served as a Young Ambassador to the American Society for Microbiology and has worked with various non-profit organizations to advocate on behalf of scientists and trainees. In 2021, Dr. Oates completed the Science Policy Fellowship with Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, where she focused on crafting public communications on complex scientific topics such as research animal transportation and National Institute of Health policy. At Gryphon, Dr. Oates utilizes her background in scientific communication to inform the public on influenza and coronavirus research and policy recommendations.

Beth loves to travel and find hidden gems for food. She claims that the best mojito can be found at an Italian restaurant in Bacharach, Germany. However, without a doubt, Kentucky has the best bourbon.
