Gryphon Scientific Supports COVID-19 Outbreak Response

Gryphon Scientific has been called on by clients from state and local governments and the federal government, including the Department of Homeland Security, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, to support the government’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak. This work has included:

    • Developing risk assessment tools to predict country-to-country spread of the virus internationally
    • Critically evaluating and synthesizing published models and research on COVID-19 to inform government decision-making
    • Developing tailored risk communication materials to support emergency response, training, and worker safety
    • Helping coordinate federal government efforts to expand community-based testing for COVID-19

We bring our hallmark deep scientific expertise and rigorous, evidence-based approach to understanding and communicating risk to this work. If you are interested to learn more about Gryphon Scientific support for the COVID-19 response, please contact us at info@gryphonscientific.com.

Development of Risk Communication Materials to Support Worker Safety

Dr. Margaret Rush gave a presentation on COVID-19 biology and ways to minimize disease transmission risks at the “Protecting Infectious Disease Responders During the COVID-19 Outbreak” meeting hosted by the Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Worker Training Program in March 2020. She developed a companion one-page information sheet about how to make your workspace “biosafe,” which is freely available below.

Supporting the Federal Interagency Community Based Testing Sites (CBTS) Task Force

Gryphon staff supported the Community Based Testing Sites (CBTS) Task Force, an all-of-government effort to stand up and operate a nation-wide network of Federally-supported COVID-19 testing sites. A collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), State and local authorities and private sector entities, the CBTS Task Force set up drive-through COVID-19 screening sites, deploying U.S. Public Health Service Officers and necessary supplies to test at-risk first responders and medical providers. For this effort, a Gryphon staff member served as the Situational Awareness Information Collection Leader, monitoring operations and disseminating mission-critical information throughout the team and the testing sites.
