Conducting Enterprise Analytics

For FEMA, we performed quick turnaround analyses of more than a dozen questions of agency-wide importance and developed innovative visualizations to engage the highest levels of senior leadership. Approaches, including advanced statistical models, text mining, and GIS analysis, were custom tailored to each project. Final briefings provided actionable recommendations to strengthen the agency’s response to emergencies.

Predicting Radiation Exposure

To identify biomarkers to predict radiation exposure and dose, Gryphon collaborated with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) on a novel machine learning approach to search and rank gene expression profiles of irradiated mice (3000+ miRNA and 24,000+ mRNA signals). Using the top 30 signals, Gryphon developed a predictive classifier of radiation exposure using support vector machine and random decision forest algorithms. Results were published in Biomarkers.

Predicting Infection with Tick Borne Diseases

Gryphon developed a differential diagnosis model for tick-borne diseases (TBDs) that predicts a patient’s likelihood of infection with specific TBDs based on their symptoms, risk factors, and location of suspected tick exposure. This model, which uses a Bayesian Belief Network to integrate TBD surveillance data and clinical study data on TBD symptoms and risk factors, was incorporated into a user-friendly tool that can be used to inform clinical diagnosis and guide selection of diagnostic testing and treatment.
