Dr. Whitney Waldsmith

Dr. Whitney Waldsmith is a veterinarian with interdisciplinary research interests encompassing public health, animal health, clinical medicine, and agricultural economics. She has a specific interest in how public health and animal agriculture issues affect international stability. Prior to joining Gryphon in 2020, Dr. Waldsmith served as a Veterinary Corps Officer for the U.S. Army. In that role, she worked with Special Operations in Asia and other global regions to increase local scientific and disaster response capacity through training events in the military and civilian sectors. Through these efforts, she developed strong science communication skills, which she uses to work collaboratively with U.S. government, private sector, and international partners on complex One Health issues. Dr. Waldsmith received her BS in Animal Science and Chemistry from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her DVM from University of Minnesota.

Whitney loves maps and has a particular fondness for stumbling upon “cartographic twins” – distinct geographic areas that are similar in shape. For example, Lithuania looks just like a squished Africa, and the northeastern point of North Korea looks just like Maine.
