Full-time Health Physicist
Gryphon Scientific has an opening for a health physicist at the Analyst level. At Gryphon, Analysts are given the opportunity to work on a diverse set of projects that require critical thinking, creative problem solving and analysis of the scientific literature. Effective personnel management, adaptability to unfamiliar topics, and the ability to lead and manage projects are key characteristics of a successful Analyst. Examples of recent projects include assessing consequences of a nuclear attack, modeling the efficacy of medical countermeasures against various radionuclides, and evaluating systems to distribute anti-neutropenic compounds in the aftermath of a nuclear or radiological attack. The majority of Gryphon projects are delivered to the client in the form of a report; thus, excellent writing skills are a must. Gryphon’s projects offer analysts the freedom to work independently with a support team, and provide an environment conducive to continued learning, acquisition of new skills in diverse fields and the ability to think critically about unfamiliar subjects.

Full-time Research Assistant
We are actively hiring recent graduates and those who will be graduating in May for research assistant positions in the areas of science and health policy and homeland security. At Gryphon, you will be given the opportunity to work on a diverse set of projects that require critical thinking, creative problem solving and analysis of the scientific literature. Gryphon RAs work on multiple projects simultaneously and as a result are exposed to a wide range of fields, including virology, microbiology, chemistry and public health. Due to Gryphon’s small size, RAs are given the opportunity to interact with senior staff at all levels of the company and are often given to opportunity to undertake challenging problems.
Necessary Qualifications
- be US Citizens
- be able to work independently
- have excellent writing skills
- have a GPA greater than 3.0 (out of 4.0) in your major
- have an undergraduate degree in a life science discipline
- be willing to re-locate to the greater Washington DC area
- have an interest in biosecurity, science policy or health policy (but not necessarily experience)
Intern
Interns assist senior staff with data gathering and other tasks. Tasks may include: review of professional journals and publications to extract and summarize information relevant to assigned research projects; research using internet-based search techniques, informational resources, and other available research tools; drawing chemical structures, performing BLAST searches, and data entry. Additionally, interns are required to assist with routine office tasks, such as ordering supplies and printing/binding reports.

- be a senior working towards B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Sciences
- be able to work independently
- have excellent writing skills
